The Biloela State High School community values:
  • Respect for self, others and the environment
  • Positive learning experiences for all
  • Our partnership with the wider community
  • Effort and excellence
The Biloela State High School community is committed to achieving a safe, supportive environment, where each individual:
  • Strives for excellence
  • Learns to learn
Biloela is located 125 km west of Gladstone in the CallideValley. Biloela has a strong economy based on rural production, coal, energy, meat processing and associated service industries. Whilst comprising of a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds, the school community is not culturally diverse, with about twenty aboriginal and Torres Strait islander students currently enrolled and few first generation migrants. The student population is stable. Geographically and socially, the school has close connections to the community and these links are continually being extended and strengthened.
Biloela State High School is the only secondary school to serve the community. Students from eight feeder schools (including two non-state schools) attend the high school, with a number travelling from outlying areas by bus. Current enrolment is 586, which has slightly declined over the past few years.
The school’s Special Education facility services the needs of approximately 20 ascertained students currently, with some projected growth in the area of students with disabilities.
Opened in 1963, the school consists of fourteen blocks connected to an efficient I.T. network. The school is situated on a large site, with a 13.55 hectare farm attached. Current building priorities include an upgrade in existing science facilities, with a new science/pedagogy centre planned for 2006. Ongoing improvements in grounds and sporting facilities remain a priority, with the Parents and Citizens Association actively involved in addressing these needs.
The current teaching staff numbers forty-five, with a Principal, two Deputy Principals, and six Heads of Department. Support staff includes a guidance officer, school-based health nurse, behaviour-management teacher, chaplain (full-time), instrumental music teacher, and teachers working with students with disabilities and learning support.
Future networking of support staff (including community agencies) is seen as a high priority.
P.C.A.P. funding as part of a local cluster. In 2005, the school and cluster received D.E.S.T. funding to undertake research into science literacy assessment in the middle school.

The Biloela SHS Optiminds Team travelled to Brisbane early this month to compete in the Optiminds State Championships. Our Team, coached by Mr Daniel Rowlands, competed in the Literature Section of the competition. Supported by the Biloela SHS P&C and CS Energy, the team competed against other schools from across Queensland for the prestigious title.

With great excitement our team triumphed and were crowned State Champions - Language Literature  section defeating Fairholme College and St Teresa's Catholic College. Congratulations to the team of James Cummins, Lewis Jonker, Samantha Kummerfeld, Keagan Harrison, James Kerr and Hayleigh Warry. Special thanks also to Mr Rowlands and the supporters and parents who travelled with the team.
