School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs) provide students in Years 11 and 12 with employment-based training while continuing full-time enrolment in a school program and study towards a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA). Year 10 students may be eligible in Semester 2 only.
A SAT is negotiated between the student, parent/carer, employer, supervising registered training organisation (SRTO) and school to ensure it provides a genuine school-based learning opportunity and forms an appropriate component of an overall school program.
At Biloela State High School:
- Student must find own employer.
- Students must meet with Year 11 & 12 Deputy Principal to determine school support. The following criteria must be met:
- Attendance over 92%
- On track for QCE
- Behaviour that meets school values
- Student works one full day per week (determined by the school) and course of study is amended to 5 subjects, with catch-up study lessons.
- To ensure English & Math classes are not missed, the work day is generally Wednesday
- Role of Biloela State High School is to support SAT student in completing traineeship/part-time apprenticeship and attaining their QCE by the end of Year 12.
Students need to speak with the Deputy Principal and Industry Liaison Officer for more information.
